Welcome to the Web Page Design Boot Camp brought to you by SymbolArt, a provider of desktop publishing, web design, and graphic design services.

The purpose of this site is to introduce you to basic concepts of web design using a web browser. The idea is not to bombard you with every morsel of detail, but to give you enough material so you can starting creating real web pages and build on what you know as you go along. You see the ideas presented in a hands-on fashion that simply reading in a book can't do. Try the HTML Maker to display a page that serves as a bare bones HTML editor. Imagine creating a simple web page without even using a separate editor and having to save files before you can view your work.

Any discussion of web page design and the use of colors should really involve viewing examples on a browser, preferably using different versions of browsers on different platforms since the way colors are rendered by browsers and the hardware that displays them can vary greatly. While we don't provide you multiple browsers, we do offer the Color Selector, a list of 140 named colors, and all the colors of the web-safe palette.

Including images to your web pages adds to their visual appeal, but it also brings challenges. You must select the appropriate image formats while being careful to keep them at an acceptable size and resolution. Try the Image Resizer to see what a difference size can make.

Take a look at Mouseover Madness to see what JavaScript can do to help put pizzazz in your web pages. Although JavaScript is considered more the realm of programmers than basic web designers, there are some simple scripts in the JavaScript Sampler you can add to your pages that can make them more informative.
